We are a community group organized and managed by a committee of volunteers. Our regular activities are centered around teachings of Albanian language and culture. We are open to all members of communities and individuals that have an interest in our language and culture. We run an Albanian Supplementary School and Dance Club every Saturday during the school terms as defined by the LEA of Borough of Greenwich. Courses are run between the hours of 11:00 and 14:00. Albanian School pupils are divided according to their ability and age. Currently teaching is done in three levels. Most of the pupils are the first generation born in UK of migrants from Albania, Macedonia and Kosova.
History BESA's activity started as a single teacher single class supplementary school in year 2000, the popularity of the school made it impossible for one teacher to handle all the groups of children wanting to learn. In 2003 another volunteer teacher joined the school and relived some of the pressure. Popularity of the only Albanian Supplementary School in the area kept growing such that in early 2005 a group of parents/members of community decided to take over the management of the school. Since then the third teacher was introduced to teach our youngest pupils, a permanent dance club with two coaches was established and is showing to be very popular. Currently we are running our activities at the Shrewsbury House, our affiliated relationship with the governors of the "Shrewsbury House Community Association" is flourishing. |
